Brookview does not have strict guidelines like other communities.  We do however have recommendations for roofing and fencing.  Most of the original homes built in Brookview had roofing material that was made up of wooden shakes.  This gave a consistent look and feel to the community.  As well, the style and colour of the fences added to the consistency of our perimeter and walkway fencing that adds to the value of our neighbourhood.

If you are thinking of replacing your roof, please consider non asphalt products.  Considering the cost differences, you may lean toward asphalt shingles and there are some designs that imitate the look of shakes.  Here are some examples of other roofing materials:

As far as fencing is concerned, it is the desire of the community and the homeowners’ association that we all remain with the same style and colours.  Just imagine how it would look from the Whitemud Drive or Terwillegar Drive if we had a checker board of colours and styles of fence!

Standard colours for painting fences in Brookview

The original colour scheme used by the developers was General Paint “New Bark” for the rails and posts and General Paint “Fawn” for the fence boards. If you use these colours when painting your fence, particularly the outside fences and those along the walkways, you will help contribute to the overall cohesive look of the neighbourhood.

When it comes time to repair or replace your fence, the homeowners’ association does have a policy where some homeowners that share their fencing with common area can request financial assistance.  See this policy here.
